The Gathering Storm (wheel of time series #12) by Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson

The names of the authors of this book sort of rhyme. Say them both three times fast.
Now that that's out of the way, do you remember that scene from the movie Sister Act 2 where the inner city kids are competing for the choir concert and one of the kids' robes rips and then the nun played by the wonderful Kathy Najimy says "don't worry, there's nothing you can't fix with a little faith, and a lot of duct tape!"?
I have a saying like that too, except it's "everything tastes better with Dijon mustard and a cold glass of diet Pepsi."
I think this book cover has a saying, too. It's "nothing impresses the ladies like a fist pump aimed at nothing".

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

I particularly like how the two birds on the left are ignoring the one bird on the right. What did he do to deserve this?

Alpha's Mate by Leah Brooke

Okay, this is the last paranormal/werewolf/romance cover art I’m going to be reviewing for a long time, I swear. The first two were just to join the popularity contest. This I found by accident one day on amazon and just had to write about it.

This book is something you expect to find at your local grocery store's limited literary section (do grocery stores even have magazine stands anymore?). As you're flipping through magazines, you see a woman standing vicariously in the book section. Picking up a few books, putting them down, reading the summaries on the back, glancing up and down, making sure no one she knows catches her there. Finally, looking slightly embarrassed about picking up this book, the thought of letting an opportunity of four headless baby oiled abs go may be too much to pass up. She will quickly pick up the book and go to checkout.

Notice that we have a woman nude except for a sheet thingy, like she’s just gotten out of bed or the shower and found a sheer, extra-large towel. Now, notice the direction of her gaze, as though she is an ethereal being, looking down upon the wolves.

She looks at these animals despite the fact that above her is a wall of torsos. The contrast of wolves with men and the fact that Siren Publishing has helpfully categorized the theme of the book in the upper right-hand corner for us has allowed us here at thehellyoureading.blogspot.com to have a general idea about what the book is about.

Did you notice how all of the mens' heads are missing? It’s very convenient, so whoever’s reading the book can imagine whoever she wants to play the part of each of the four men. Who she is not supposed to fantasize about, however, are the wolves. These parts have already been cast.

Now, not being able to see the men's faces is similar to porn (yes, I did just make a connection), but before anyone begins to think I'm an avid porn watcher, I took a Visual Studies class while at university and yes, we did "discuss" it- not view them to the disappointment of many hormone ravaged young men in class.
All together now: nicely toned abs, pecks reminiscent of early 90's Fabio slathered in baby oil, and more importantly no heads. Porns have Point-Of-View videos. You don't see the faces of the participants because it allows viewers/readers aka voyeurs the opportunity to envision themselves in those roles -the manly stud who believes they're every girl's answer to sex or the hot girl with the body that only hours at the gym, diets, and plastic surgery can achieve. We can envision ourselves in these roles when we read this book! This book will give us the outlet even while we're eating bars of chocolate to send more endorphins to our brains.

Note how the humans are in color, while the wolves are in black and white. Nonetheless, they all form a continuous circle of wolves, woman and male torsos around the title and author’s name. Life is a beautiful thing.

Now, the circle of wolves. Religious metaphor? Could this scantily clad woman be the reincarnation of Botticelli's Birth of Venus for the 21st century? The new literary representation the Goddess of Love. She hovers over the pack of wolves as she is the innocent sheep, and the wolves - dangerous men. Dangerous, but tempting of course. Thou shall not be tempted ladies, but will she? Will the temptation of the wolves be too much for the innocent sheep? Oh... the possibilities.
